22 G eneva Rock was founded in 1954 by W.W. Clyde in a joint venture with Jacobsen Construction. Utah had less than 700,000 residents, I-15 was under construc- tion to replace U.S. Route 91, and there were no skyscrapers anywhere in the state. Early projects included helping build I-15, Brigham Young University, Geneva Steel, and Provo High School. The company provided concrete for the Church Office Building in the 1960s. There were additional projects on the University of Utah and BYU campuses as dozens of buildings were constructed; in the late 1970s, Geneva Rock graded and moved earth on the main campus for what is now Utah Valley University. When the Olympics came to Utah, Geneva Steel helped prepare the Rice-Eccles Stadium, light rail lines for TRAX, the Park City luge, the Kearns speed skating oval, and a project to rebuild and expand I-15. Geneva Rock’s employees then volunteered for the Olympics, cleared snow, and drove shuttles. The Salt Lake International Airport is being rebuilt, and of course Geneva Rock (which has worked on the airport since the early 1980s) has been in on the action. As the people at Geneva Rock look back at the last 65 years, they have been thinking about the values that have made the company successful. Those values are as follows: • We value people • Our word is our bond • Give a full measure • Quality products and services at the best value These values have defined the employees, the services they provide to customers, and their products, and they have also made it possible for Geneva Rock to build better communities.
