28 STAKER PARSON MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTION PROJECT LOCATION: SR-65, I-80 to the Seasonal Gate Near Little Dell Reservoirs PROJECT START: June 2019 PROJECT COMPLETION: September 2019 SR-65, I-80 TO THE GATE T he project was a 3.1-mile roadway rehabilitation of SR-65 from I-80 to the seasonal gate near Little Dell Reservoir. Main project scope included 25,000 tons of hot mix asphalt, 96,700 SY of micro surfacing and roto milling. This section of road way is heavily trafficked by recreationalists, especially bicyclists, and provides access to some of Utah’s great recreational sites. The volume of users of the road was a concern and required no work during the weekend and strict times that lane closures were allowed. The project also bisects the popular Mountain Dell Golf Course. The team did a great job working with the cycling community, golfers and all other users to ensure a safe and success- ful project. Not long into the project, soft sub-grade became a worrisome issue. UDOT and Staker Parson Materials & Construction worked together to come up with a solution that still met the project goals and budgetary restraints. After multiple soft-spot repair options were discussed and attempted, we reduced the roto milling scope and the project moved to an overlay in place of a mill and fill. The high quality of work on this project yielded great safety improvements to the roadway and its users. Problematic drainage in areas were bettered, and the safer shoulders, guardrail, and improved signing all benefit the community and users. Smoothness and ride quality were also greatly enhanced. Quality was a top concern to the project team. The materials supplied to the project were of high quality, with no HMA lots in disincentive. The team also managed through setbacks of subcontractors going out of busi- ness and specialty equipment being destroyed in an accident not related to or on the project. The relationship of Staker Parson Materials & Construction with many highly qualified subcontractors helped resolve these potentially devastating issues. There were ZERO incidents, accidents, recordables or lost time incidents on this project. Standard safety programs were implemented to keep the public and con- tractors safe through the construction process. Great care was exercised in the setting and maintaining of traffic control. 3 QUALITY IN PRESERVATION NOMINEE:
