SR-210 is a heavily traveled state road in theworld-renowned Little Cottonwood Canyon, known for its outdoor recrea- tion. It is a popular year-round destina- tion. Alongwith that popularity are the following challenges: • Keeping the canyon openwhile under construction • Maintaining open access to camp- grounds and hiking trails • Working despite the large numbers of cyclists who ride the canyon every day Other challengeswhileworking in Little Cottonwood on SR-210 included: • The need to mill and pave back the samedaywith a traffic control pilot car. • Very limited access because of the steep grade and narrow canyon shoulders. • A sensi ti ve env ironment . The Cottonwood Creek watershed had to be protected within the canyon. • Two ski resorts that bothhave summer access and lift operations. • More than 90 utilities that had to be lowered and raised using the new UDOT-specified Rapid Set mix.
