29 MARK DROUBAY, PRESIDENT, DOUBLE D DISTRIBUTION Why did you choose construction as a career? My main decision was really about not wanting to go to college. In 1983, I had just completed a mission on behalf of my church, and what I knew was this: I loved farming, I loved trucks and I really was not interested in a four-year degree. My neighbor had a truck – it was lacking a transmission – but, my brother and I bought it and we started a small trucking business, which actu- ally evolved into a service business that supports the construc- tion industry. Our main core is asphalt. What is your current position? What do you do? I own the company, so that means I still do a little of every- thing. In the beginning stages of the company, I drove a truck. As we grew, I bought out my brother, and hired employees. But running a business is hard work. There were many days in the beginning when the days just didn’t end it seemed like one day eroded right into the next. What do you like about it? The diversity of work life. While we are a trucking company, and we transport goods, but, every day is different. I like being my own boss, and I like what I do. I have been very fortunate. What is the best advice you can give to someone looking at this field as a career choice? The construction field is wide open, with everything from construction management to supporting services, like our company. The construction industry is one who’s barriers to entry are pretty much nonexistent. There are people with college degrees, vocational school and apprenticeships, and the pay is equally good. This is one industry where hard work and a skillset makes the difference. BUP MINARDI, PRESIDENT M.R.E.S. Why did you choose construction as a career? I have always been interested in building things and around construction people. I started out landscaping, to framing, and finally ended up on the equipment side of the industry. What is your current position? What do you do? I am the president of Mountain Regional Equipment Solutions and M.R.E.S. Imports LLC. I started Mountain Regional in 2004. Our company sales, services, and installs Automated Lubrication Systems, Active and Passive Safety Systems, and Maintenance Products for Off Road Heavy Equipment, On Road Vocational and Transportation Equipment, Fixed Plant and Industrial Equipment, Cranes, and Rail. MRES Imports LLC is the sole importer for Claitec Safety Products which delivers high end safety products used in conjunction with forklift to human interface in the Distribution and Industrial markets. What do you like about it? The people, the challenges, and seeing a completed job. What is the best advice you can give to someone looking at this field as a career choice? Keep your eyes on the horizon while you build and enjoy looking back at the finished product. Don’t expect or want it to be easy because that is for the mundane.
