COMMUNICATION IS OUR GOAL Reed Ryan Executive Director The Utah Asphalt Pavement Association EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE I t’s that time of year again! The sun is out, temperatures are climbing, and the work of this industry is off to another great start for the 2018 summer construc- tion season. Each construction season I am always reminded and amazed by the hours, dedication, and effort that our industry puts into building great roads here in Utah. We are all certainly busy, and that is a really good thing, but we have all known people that are good at being busy without really achieving anything. I’ve often thought about what’s the difference between people who are busy and get things done and people who are busy while not really achieving anything of sub- stance. For me, it comes down to clear communication. As an association, we are busy, but are we effectively communicating to you all that is happening both within and without the association and our industry? The Utah Asphalt Pavement Association (UAPA) is doing wonderful things to professionally support our members, and the level of our educational offerings is exceptional. As an association we have matured and accomplished much. We are in the middle of a year that offers many changes for us, but how many of you know about all of that is happening? So, it is that with growth and being busy comes the need for com- munication. To that end, I am excited to offer our new association magazine, On the Road, to you. Our goal with this publication is to more effectively communicate our events, local news, specification updates, and association activities in an educational and informative manner. We’re hopeful that as members and potential members alike see all that is happening and being done on their behalf that the association will continue to prove its value. Many changes have already taken place for UAPA in 2018. I am excited for this next step as we are all busy and striving to do our best for the industry. As an associa- tion, we may have a new address and a different view from the office window, but our goals and values remain the same through our committed, unified voice for industry. 3 CALENDAR OF EVENTS: June 28, 2018 – Lunch & Learn Best Practices for Specifying and Procuring Spray-Applied Pavement Preservation Treatments August 15, 2018 – 2018 UAPA Golf Classic at Mountain Dell November 12 – 13, 2018 – UAPA Southern Utah Asphalt Seminar February 25 – 27, 2019 – 2019 Utah Asphalt Conference We’re hopeful that as members and potential members alike see all that is happening and being done on their behalf that the association will continue to prove its value. 2
